What i Recommend

Here's a list of some of my favorite items to use in the hobby for painting, modeling and more.
Painting
Vallejo:

In my opinion Vallejo are simply the best acrylics out there with a truly huge range.

They make the model colour range ( my personal favorite) that have over 200 different paints all in 17ml drop bottles. These paints are better for a more realistic pallet as they are not as bright as many of the game colour range.

The game colour range, which are essentially game workshop paints but in dropper bottles and the better Vallejo paint consisency.

The Model Air range, which is designed specifically for airbrush use, though they can be used with a brush too.

All three ranges have hundreds of great colours and at a very good price and you get 17ml of paint compared to the citadel 12ml!

They also have a rather cool range of special effects paints too, from the fluorescent range and the smoke, woodgrain and more special paints for loads more effects.

I strongly advise having a look as they are MUCH better than the citadel paint range in every way.

Vallejo can be quite hard to source though, i advise checking the internet for them
.

I get mine from:

As they stock the full range, they also sell citadel too.

Tamiya:

I like to use the Tamiya Clear colours to make some really great effects, as they are translucent and dry in a nice glossy finish they are superb for blood and slime effects.

Tamiya can be sourced easily online, i just get mine off eBay or in the UK Modelzone stock the range.
Brushes
Winsor & Newton series 7 kolinsky Sable miniature brushes:

These brushes are quite simply the best of the best made with natural hair they keep there point for a very very long time. They really are the best brushes out there so they have the price tag to go with it! But they are more than worth the price. The quality of the hair lets you easily apply paint without any of those annoying brush strokes. You will instantly feel the quality when you use one of these, cant recommend them enough

Though I wouldn't use them for anything but the details of the model as you don't want to destroy such a brush with stippling dry brushing or painting on base coats!

I have only ever bought two of there brushes and each has lasted me over two years now whereas poorer quality brushes will soon fall apart with use. I will cover how to care for your brushes in a future tutorial.
Heres a link to the official site with more detail on the brushes:

I advise looking them up elsewhere to buy. I personally use eBay for pure ease.

The Masters Brush Cleaner and Preserver:

A fantastic tool for keeping your brushes as good as the day they were made. This product is so simple to use yet so effective i cannot recommend it more for those of your looking to have great brushes all the time.

It is designed to remove all the old paint from a brush and it really will do just that. Also by leaving it on the brush it will re align the tip of even the oldest brushes.

This stuff works with acrylics oils and probably most paints.

Here's a link to a site with more info on the product and how to use it:

I will also be doing a tutorial on brush care in a future tutorial.

This product is easily available online.
